Many of us have had to tighten our belts over the last few years, to get through these austere times. And as they say, “necessity breeds invention”. So it warms the heart to see all the entries for our Thrifty Cosplay bring some sort of creative use of household items. Whittling down the finalists was so hard we decided to give away an extra two shirts.
The criteria for the teeshirt winners was simple: Did it amuse us? With these four winners, the answer is a definite YES!
Well done to Josh Allen for making good use of Mrs Wolowitz’s swimsuit (please get the Big Bang Theory reference). No one needed to guess you dressed up as a Slig (just kidding!). That’s a pretty cool Glockstar.
Obviously, everyone has a spare prosthetic leg lying around the house, so we were surprised there weren’t more entries for Scrabs like this one from Lachland Patterson. The creative use of cardboard from the recycling pile and those sexy velvet trousers meant it had to be in the pile.
Mad props to Laura Brown for this entry. Not only did she manage to rope in an unwitting canine test subject (how Vykkers is that?!), Laura also provided a behind-the-scenes, all-access making-of video for everyone. We even double-checked the rule book and there’s nothing in there preventing non-human entries! Little pooch Gigi makes a convincing emo-Paramite.
Last, but definitely not least, we loved this interpretation of Stranger from Patrick James Mazzu. From the home-made poncho to the bow taped to bare arm and the flash of knee flesh, he even managed to fit some real Live Ammo on there!
You can see all the entries over on our Facebook page. We’ll be sending out the winners’ prizes as soon as the winners get back to us, but we have a little something for all 19 entrants, so get in touch!
