Abe’s Oddysee and Exoddus on PS Vita

The new System Software Update (v1.80) for PS Vita introducing PSOne Classics to your handheld, enabling you to play 130 games first released on the original PlayStation console. Amongst them are Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee and Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus.

If you already own these games on PSN, you can download them to your Vita right away, or transfer them from your PS3. If you don’t – what are you waiting for? You can buy them right now!

The catch is that they’re only currently available in PAL territories (those represented by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe), including Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates. North America only gets 9 PSOne Classics, none of them Oddworld, but will get an expanded catalogue in a few weeks’ time.

For a full list of PSOne Classics newly available in your region and other new features the System Software Update (v1.80) will bring, check the European PlayStation Blog or North American PlayStation Blog.

  1. I’m in the SCEE region but buy my PSone Classics from SCEA for the full-screen, 60Hz goodness so their weekly drip-feed is a bit of a PITA!

      • A majority of PAL PSone games are vertically squashed with black bars top and bottom and pretty much all of them run at 50Hz, limiting framerate to upto 25 or 50fps.

When I played my freebie PlayStation Plus PAL version of Abe’s Oddysee, it appeared to suffer from both vertical squash and slower animation from the reduced framerate.

      • Alf, thanks for that , I had the same issue. It’s nice to see some psvita features used in a phone classic. Do you know if there is a way to adjust the screen resolution.? Although the game. Looks remarkedly crisp and sharp, more so than the psp version. Also, in the demo section. I noticed it loads one, then before it can play it, loads again, then doesn’t play at all and just exits. Is this normal? For example, I believe the crawling slig one and paramite and fleeches does this too. Thanks, glad this game is here .

      • You can play with the resolution by holding the front screen until the menu appears and you can go into display settings. I’m afraid I have no idea what you’re talking about after that. Demo section?

  2. Arrhgh im so tempted to get a psvita now but it costs. It would be awsome to play it on a hand held through with all the mad sounds going on from the first two games.

where can I find the latest news on the progress of oddworld HD (what name did you pick from the competition?) Im so excited about that my heads gonna explode!

  3. Just brought Oddysee, the controls are bloody awful, I waited so long for PS1 games on my Vita and this was my first purchase… and my last. The longer I’ve had my Vita the more I hate it. Could they not have mapped the gamespeak onto the thumb sticks, with a press of both sticks for chant. Its not brain surgery for F***s sake… a few minutes effort could have sorted this so easily.

    • Remapping the controls of Abe’s Oddysee wouldn’t be a few minutes effort, it would be weeks, possibly months of rewriting the entire engine from the ground up to support that. You can’t click the Vita thumbsticks anyway.

  4. Why have you removed my comment? All I did was say that you remove negative comments rather than addressing the issues that they raise,…

    • Hi Lou. Comments are moderated. They don’t appear automatically, I have to approve them first, hence why your comment hasn’t appear immediately. Now I haven’t received any comment from you before, so I can’t possibly have deleted it.

    • Hmm, I take it its asking you to switch to Disc 2? Try holding down the screen and seeing if there’s a ‘change disc’ option. Let me know if that works or you find a different solution!

      • pressing screen and holding worked like charm. Thanks, great game, excellent value for money. Hope other otherworld games are just as nice.
